A Study on the toxicity of Phenol in Carp

Abstract
|
|
|
The purposes of present study were to investigate the toxicity of 5 phenol concentration(5, 10, 15, 20 and 25ppm) on hematological parameters(WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC and platoler) and serumbiochemical parameters(activities of AST, ALT and ALP, values of cholesterol, BUN, glucose., total bilirubin, total protein, albumin and G ratio) in carp., Cyprinus carpio
The results are summarized as follows :
1. Hematological parameters were not changed by phenol but platelet in 25ppm group was increased than that of control group.
2. Activities of AST and ALT in 25ppm group were significantly increased from those of control group and another treated group.
3. Value of cholesterol in 15, 20 and 25ppm groups were increase from that of control group.
4. Values of BUN in 20 and 25ppm groups were significantly decreased from that of control group.
5. ALP activity and values of glucose were decreased in treated groups compared with control group.
6. A/G ratio in phenol-treated groups were increased from that of control group.
7. Values of TP and ALB were not changed by phenol treatment.
In conclusion, phenol not affected to hematological parameters and changes of serum biochemical. parameters shown to chemical liver damage such necrotic degeneration of hepatic cell by phenol in carp.
